FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition features the most refined in-game gameplay in the franchise’s history, powered by HyperMotion2 Technology (available on next-gen consoles and PC only) that doubles the amount of motion capture data from real-world matches to create more than 6,000 new animations that dramatically change how players move, the physics of the ball, and the natural interactions between teammates. Technical Dribbling is at the core of the game and is a refined feature that allows players to differentiate between sudden sprints and precise, close-range control of the ball so that highly skilled players such as Vinícius Júnior or Salah can slice through defensive lines with context-sensitive feints and body feints that respond in real time to the pressure applied by defenders.

The Power Shot system introduces risk and reward as players can build a strong, powerful shot at the risk of accuracy and wind-up time for incredible speed. The AcceleRATE system ranks each player into one of three acceleration categories (Explosive, Lengthy, or Controlled) based on their physical attributes, which alters how they accelerate from the start and how they reach their maximum speed. Completely overhauled defensive systems feature smarter Contain and Jockey systems that see defenders automatically adjusting their stance and body position to the movement patterns of the attacking player.

The AI of the goalkeeper has been completely overhauled with a new Goalkeeper Personality System where each goalkeeper has their own individual tendencies regarding making saves, different reaction times, and specific positioning habits that are true to their real-life counterparts such as Alisson’s sweeping or Neuer’s aggressive rushing.

FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition introduces cross-play across a range of platforms, enabling players on PlayStation, Xbox and PC to go head-to-head in Online Friendlies, VOLTA Football and FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT), removing the usual barriers between consoles and bringing the global player base together. Career Mode gets its biggest update in years with the launch of Playable Highlights. This interactive match simulation lets players take control at key moments in live games, such as during set-pieces, penalties, or breakthrough situations. The rest of the match is simulated. The new Manager and Player Personality Systems add depth to negotiations, squad morale, and media interactions, with dynamic objectives that shift based on the club's ambitions and the board's expectations.

VOLTA Football enhances its street-football offering with new arcade-style power-ups, a dedicated online league, and cross-play integration. At the same time, the returning Pro Clubs mode now includes greater customization and progression. In FUT, the FUT Moments system is a challenge-based mode that recreates key objectives from iconic moments in football history to award rewards, along with the return of the FUT Heroes and Team of the Year promotions.
