Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time rebooted the whole franchise back in 2003, and it’s still considered one of the best action-adventure platformers ever made for nailing that perfect mix of acrobatic traversal, rhythmic combat, and a genuinely clever time-manipulation gimmick. You play as an unnamed Prince who, after being tricked by a treacherous Vizier, accidentally unleashes the Sands of Time, and turns an entire palace full of people into sand monsters. Now you have to fix your mistake with the help of a mysterious princess named Farah, and a magical dagger that lets you rewind time itself. The core gameplay loop is focused on fluid platforming, puzzle-solving and utilizing the Dagger of Time to rewind your mistakes. You'll run along walls, swing from poles, bounce off enemies, and chain together jumps and grabs in ways that feel almost like a dance, and the game's camera is smart enough to make even the trickiest sequences readable.

Combat is built around crowd control rather than combo-mashing—you'll vault over enemies, slash them into the air, and finish them off by stabbing them with the dagger to absorb their sand, which you then use to rewind time, slow down enemies, or freeze them in place. The puzzles are clever but never frustrating, and the whole thing is tied together by a storybook framing device and the Prince's constant narration, which gives the whole adventure a warm, nostalgic feel. It's short, it's sweet, and it set the template for every cinematic platformer that came after it.
